Frightened Shelter Cat

I wanted to share an interesting experience I had at the shelter last night.  I had been offering (distance) Reiki to a cat during the last two of my weekly visits.  He was turned into the shelter due to problems with a new baby.  He appeared to relax and enjoy the treatments, but remained huddled in the back of the kennel, and did not want contact with me.  Last night, he approached briefly when I opened the kennel, but retreated.  I began to offer Reiki, while playing with a toy mouse.  He allowed me to touch him for the first time.  Then a shelter worker came in, and he retreated, with pupils extremely dilated.  I told him that she was o.k. I went on to tell him that I understand that he is probably angry and hurt and disappointed by his people, and that he has every

right to be.  I then asked him if it was a choice to remain angry and afraid, and if he was willing to let that go.  That if he would have to decide to trust at least some of us if he wants us to help him get out of there.  Since I'm not able to pick up on energy yet, I don't know what his answer was, but I went ahead and did a clearing statement.  Shortly after that, he came to me and was very friendly!  He let me pet him, he snuggled, he rolled on his back and played - in short, a different cat.
